Your Vegan Guide to Punky Colored Hair
In high school and college, I was all about having fun, vibrant, expressive hair—pink, green, blue, yellow… you name it, and as of 2 1/2 years ago, I finally returned to my colorful roots. I’ve been mostly pink, but I’ve dabbled with a bit of purple and maroon. It’s SO much fun, and I really feel I look my best with these vibrant, girlie shades.
While I’m partial to a couple of punky color brands (feel free to comment or msg me for more deets), I’m beyond stoked to know that all the brands listed below are vegan and cruelty-free! Some of them even smell like candy!
Just a couple of notes: All of these dyes are semi-permanent and will fade with each wash. I also highly recommend bleaching your hair before using these dyes for a brighter, more intense outcome.
Kick-ass, colorful vegan & cruelty-free hair dyes:
- Jerome Russell Punky Colour (bleach kits available)
- Manic Panic (bleach kits available)
- Splat (bleach kits available)
- Special Effects
- Paul Mitchell Ink Works
- Hot Topic Raw Color
What you’ll need in addition to a bleach kit and hair dye:
- An old raggedy shirt
- Latex gloves
- Tint Brush/Comb
- Plastic bowl
- Cap
Simply follow the instructions on your bleach kit/hair dye, and enjoy the colorful transformation. Since these semi-permanent dyes do tend to fade with each wash, I highly recommend not washing your hair every single day (I often skip a week, sometimes two). I def use dry shampoo in between washes, though. For a complete list of vegan and cruelty-free dry shampoos, click here!
